Added Swing component at runtime does not show up

Task: Adding some swing components at runtime

Problem: Added components did not show up.  For some reason adding components  with add(Component) did not work; probably some missing arguments etc (but no exception was thrown; or warning).  Using functions such as revalidate repaint did not work either; getLayout doLayout did not work either.

Solution: NetBeans GUI UI wizard uses “Free Layout” by default; changing layout to “Flow Layout” fixed the problem.
